Can you trust your weather person to predict the weather correctly? The percent of people that believe the weather is only accurate 50% of the time is very high. Should we shoot the weather reporters? No, I suppose that's not a good solution. If you can't beat 'em, lets join em'!! So why is weather reporting so hard? Accurate weather reports take lots of data! There are over 11,000 weather satellites, ground stations and eyes that watch the weather every day. Weather balloons are sent up, ship captains are charting weather, air pressure gauges are sending data to computers...the whole process is just huge! Another factor that doesn't help is this; air masses are always moving. Could you predict the weather just looking out your window? Probably for the moment, but in a few hours? Who knows! Weather reporters have to look at maps with lots of data on them, make sense of all the information and then give us an "accurate" interpretation... Did I hear you say that you could never do that? Grab your umbrellas and rain gear! After vacation we are going to dive into the world of weather reports and what all this stuff means. My goal is to make you the best weather watchers and weather predictors by the 1st of May! Yes...all of us can predict the weather. We can use our science super powers to help our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, neighbors and friends survive the elements. I know, I can feel the excitement too! Have a great spring break. Come back rested and be ready to conquer...the weather!
