Cumulus clouds are probably the prettiest clouds in the sky. I can remember many a warm day laying on my back in the grass watching these puffy clouds and finding familiar shapes among the clouds in my imagination...a rabbit, horse, unicorn, you know that kind of stuff kids used to do when they were bored and didn't have X-Boxes or PS-4's. Cumulus clouds form close to the ground when warm air rises and meets cooled, sinking air. Many cumulus clouds are associated with good weather, but not always. Cumulonimbus clouds are associated with wild and sometimes violent weather. Cumulonimbus clouds are usually flat on the bottom because they carry so much moisture, the moisture collects and sinks to the bottom of the cloud making it look dark, and scary. Altocumulus is another type of cumulus cloud that sits higher in the sky than the cumulonimbus clouds. Altocumulus clouds usually bring evening rains when the cool evening air meets the warm air from the ground right after the sun has set.
The lumpiness of cumulus clouds is caused by pockets of trapped air inside the clouds making the edges bumpy. Appreciate these beautiful clouds because they only last from 5 to 45 minutes and then "poof", they are gone. If you can capture a picture of an awesome cloud...it is priceless, only to be seen again by looking at a picture.
