We are so lucky to live next to such an amazing ecosystem like the Timpanogos Caves. Living so close to something like this we tend to take it for granted. I'm glad that we will be able to take a closer look at the ecosystems around the cave and inside the cave. On our walk up to the caves we will see lots of plants, vegetation and grasses. What we might not see are the shy critters that live in the plants and grasses. The 1.5 mile hike to Timpanogos Caves. Lizards may be sunning themselves on the rocks. Some of them do push-ups, others when startled make a "barking" sound. Mountain goats have been known to use the trail... Bighorn Sheep have chased hikers up and down the trail each season. There have been cougar sightings, and bear. We shouldn't take this area for granted because it's ecosystem can support many large animals. We might not see these critters, but they are watching us, that's for sure! Be careful and listen for rockfall caused by little lizards, rabbits or sheep goats foraging in the bushes above our heads. Remember to follow the rules, listen to the stories of this amazing area where we live and appreciate this great national park! The Timpanogos Caves has opportunities for people your age. If you love the caves you could work in them throughout the summer. The program is called: B. A. T. S. Applications are being accepted through June. If this sounds like fun, ask a ranger and they will gladly help you. Sigh....You know what I mean....
