Look at these interesting temperatures! This is what we experience on Earth and what it feels like to freeze from the outside in... So! What would it be like on the other planets? Looking at this graph, there just aren't any other planets that are like Earth. In our Solar System it is either boiling hot or freezing cold. Earth has continued to warm up since curious people began making records 100 years ago. In the last 10 years the Earth has been warmer at times and colder at times, but not once has the Earth been as cold as it was 100 years ago. This has made scientists take a closer look at our atmosphere and try to find out why the Earth continues warm up. How many planets have greenhouse gases? We are in luck, Venus has a huge greenhouse effect. In fact the greenhouse effect on Venus is huge making it the hottest in the Solar System. Mars, has a small greenhouse effect, and it also has a small amount of atmosphere. It appears heat is trapped in the atmosphere by gases, specifically certain gases, like methane, carbon dioxide and other trace gases. There is Saturn's moon, Titan that also exhibits the greenhouse effect. As far as scientists can tell, Titan has a greenhouse effect too. It appears Titan's atmosphere has lots of methane gas which warms its surface and causes scientists to believe life could be possible there because it is warmer there on the surface, even though so far from the Sun.

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
