Over the course of 100 minutes, 14 states across the United States experienced more than two minutes of darkness in the middle of the day. We experienced 92% darkness in the middle of the day! It was pretty bright for having 92% of the sun covered. That goes to show how powerful those sun rays are! I hope you enjoyed having an eclipse experience. Many scientists were studying this eclipse from many different stations within totality and spread out through the zones that were 99%-40%. Scientists were taking data in jets, the International Space Station and weather balloons. Why all this excitement and hype over an eclipse? Because scientists are curious. Everyone has a question about what in the world is going on when the Sun-Moon-Earth are all aligned perfectly. Albert Einstein took this picture of a total eclipse in 1919 and was able to verify his Theory of Relativity. The International Space Station was able to track the shadow the moon makes on the earth allowing scientists the ability to predict future eclipses for many years into the future. This phenomenon is amazing and will continue to be amazing for years to come. Your questions may be answered in the future. Scientists learn many things by studying phenomenon. The Solar Eclipse is not rare, by looking at this future eclipse map you can see that the pattern of eclipses are not all in the same place. So experiencing an eclipse is "special" for those that are in the pathway.
What a great day! I'm so glad we had this experience together! I will remember it always, I wonder where we will be in 2045 when UTAH will be in totality? Wherever I am I will remember this day for sure!

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
