Across the sixth grade classes I'm hearing a trending question....How can all molecules in matter vibrate? Solids are solid. How do solids vibrate? The Kinetic theory of matter states: All matter is made up of atoms and molecules that are constantly moving. I can hear the murmurs..."Sure, Mrs. Taylor, sure..." Big rocks vibrate....whatever. If the Kinetic Theory of Matter is correct, yes, even that big, fatty, rock is vibrating. That big, huge, rock is exposed to heat and cold. We know that cold molecules vibrate super slow, but when heated they vibrate faster. The above picture demonstrates how a big, huge, rock can be broken down to soil due to cooling and heating, and water. Because there are a giga-gillion of molecules in this rock their tiny vibrations make a difference. Solids vibrate slowly, like WAY slowly. We won't notice a solid vibrating because we don't have the time to watch it! A cold metal ball will easily pass through a ring. When you heat the ball to a higher temperature, the ball will not go through the ring! Yes, that hunk of metal heated up that much! This train track got hot and expanded. It didn't have anywhere to expand to, so it warped. Engineers have learned that when building bridges, they need to provide a way for the materials to expand and shrink in the cold and hot weather. Every car owner knows (or should know) if you heat up your engine too hot, the pistons will expand and "freeze" in the tube they slide up and down in causing the car engine to "burn up"... The one thing you never want to do is borrow your parents very expensive car and blow it up by binding up the pistons....just some FYI.... I'm a believer in the Kinetic Theory of Matter.

Thats great! I always wondered how they could vibrate inside a solid. Also Ben I like terraria too.

That is the same way a balloon pops. Instead of warping it pops when its hot.

As soon as I was done with my homework, which was very easy, I got onto one of my moms computers and just commented and looked at what Mrs. Taylor blogged.

The poker world over the past decade has dramatically changed with the boom of the Internet. Although, most gambling games can be found online today the differences between playing online and at a casino do not change the face of the game.
