Science Periods 1 and 2 have started looking at the theories behind the formation of our Solar System. Their ideas have been knowledgeable and full of understanding! As we explore these concepts it will be very fun hearing what is said and I look forward to having good discussions. So, just what is this gravitational force and how does it work when we talk about the formation of the Solar System? Newton told us that gravity acts between all objects, they are attracted to each other by this force. If one mass is larger than the other then the force of gravity between them increases. If the objects are far apart the force is weaker. Think about our Sun. It is a HUGE mass and compare that with the mass of the Earth. We are definitely in the gravitational force field of the Sun! Suspended in space next to a huge star with the just the perfect balance so we aren't eaten up by the star and far enough away that we don't burn up! Our Sun is massive enough that it has nine planets within its gravitational force. The Sun's gravitational pull keeps our planet orbiting the Sun. The motion of the Moon is affected by the gravity of the Sun AND the Earth. Gravity always works...its the law!

That lamb is so cute!!! I like gravity, but I don't like gravity. Gravity is cool because it's strong enough to pull someone or something down or away from the sky. I don't like gravity because if we didn't have gravity then we could be floating in the sky. That would be pretty awesome! :)

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
