In 2004 a category 5 Hurricane, called Ivan developed in the Atlantic Ocean. Ninety percent of the houses on Grenada were damaged by the destructive force. Ivan's winds were in excess of 200 kilometers per hour. It was the biggest hurricane to form in 2004 and one of the strongest hurricanes in our recorded history. Meteorologists retired the name "Ivan" because it was so devastating and caused a great loss of life in its path. The international space station took this picture of the eye of Ivan. Hurricane Matthew that just blew over Cuba and Haiti was a category 4 hurricane and caused damage to these islands, killing nearly 200 people in its path. Hurricane season is usually in the fall in the Northern Hemisphere because the waters have warmed over the summer and then begin to cool as winds come down from the north and mix with warm tropical air. This creates mega-storms in lots of places... Here are some pictures of fascinating clouds that grow due to masses of cold air meeting up with masses of warm air: Ummm, I would not be standing where they are standing.... These are the kinds of pictures you get because millions of people carry their phones with them everywhere and can take a picture in an instant. Being a weather watcher is kind of fun!
