Simply, heat or electricity will travel through metals and water. If you put a cold pot of water on a hot burner, the heat from the burner will excite the cold molecules of the pot and the heat will travel from hot to cold areas on the pot. Put a metal spoon in a hot pot of cocoa and the heat from the cocoa will travel up the spoon making it super hot and burning your hand when you touch it. In the image above you can see the heat from the blue flame will excite the molecules that are touching the flame. Those particles heat up and touch other particles causing the heat to be conducted all down the metal until the whole piece of metal is hot to the touch.
It's pretty simple, energy travels from hot to cold! From hot to cold! From hot to cold!

I think it is cool to now that heat spreads through the object heating it up, not all at once

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
