If some mammals hibernate during the cold, winter months, since humans are mammals, do we feel like hibernating too? So hang on, I did some research and found out some interesting stuff about how humans, also known as mammals, react to seasonal changes. First, our heart rates speed up! When the temperature cools, our bodies cool causing our blood pressure to increase. The blood vessels in our bodies actually constrict, or shrink. Only a little bit and nothing to worry about, but this causes our heart to work a little harder when things cool down. Next, we sleep more hours per night, but wake up feeling really sleepy! Because there is less sunlight, inside our eyes is a sensitive sensor called the retina. This signals to the brain what we see and also senses light. In the summer months there is more light sensed, this message is sent to the brain. When daylight savings time happens and the sun goes down about 5:00 pm our retina senses this and sends the signal to the brain that light is changing. These signals affect how deeply we sleep. So, we are sleeping longer, but we aren't sleeping as deeply during the shorter days of winter....(who thinks up this stuff?) Another weird thing we do when the days become shorter is that a lot of people get on the phone more! I guess when winter keeps us indoors for long periods of time we don't have anything else better to do than call our peeps. Humans just don't call anyone either...they call their best friends, or selected family members. And it's the same people we talk to all winter long.... Oh! There's this problem too for humans when the seasons change. When the temperature begins to drop we don't keep ourselves hydrated. In the summer when it's hot and sizzling outside we dry out really fast and need to guzzle gallons of water. In the winter we don't feel hot and we don't drink as much...even though our bodies still need all. that. water! Finally, it seems that when the temperature begins to drop our memories get better! It appears humans have better recall in the cold than on a warm, sunny day. (Well, duh. On a warm, sunny day there are more things to distract us!) Winter months show more productivity and better focus on tasks at school and at our jobs. There you have it! More information about the seasons that you probably need. Do with it what you will!

Ahh yes "We don't have anything else better to do than call our peeps." During the winter. That's actually kinda weird that we call more in the winter than any other time of the year!

If humans have a better memory in the Winter, do you suppose I could remember what l ate for breakfast two months ago?
