In the late 1940's the United States and Canada believed they needed protection from a Soviet attack. The fear was long-range missiles might come from Russia targeting large cities like Toronto, Canada or Los Angeles, California. Air force leaders created a plan using radar, the finest, in that era anyway. The military in Canada and the United States worked together tracking objects in the sky over their territories. NORAD still exists today. They have upgraded their radar technology to meet their goal of protecting citizens from air strikes from not only Russia, but any terrorist organization. NORAD had developed the reputation of being able to track anything across the skies. It seems that nothing goes unseen because of the high technology at NORAD. One day over Turkey, this photo was taken... Something had entered Turkish airspace! NORAD jets went into action and this is what they found! A tense situation was averted as pilots talked with the driver of the "identified" flying object. Not wanting to put the driver in harms way, NORAD created another plan to see that all children, all over the world, would have a safe and fun Christmas. They created noradsanta.org. Every Christmas Eve NORAD tracks the famous, jolly Santa Claus. If you want to watch from Santa's Village you can. I promise if you have younger siblings, or cousins, they are going to love you when you show them how Santa gets around the world! There are games to play, puzzles to solve, pictures! You name it, Santa's Village gets better and better every year! Military personnel work around the clock monitoring Santa's progress and they make this information available for you! Remember! Christmas Eve, for 24 hours, you can track Santa and show your family and friends. Maybe you can track Santa to your house? Everyone! Have the best Christmas ever! See you next year! www.noradsanta.org
