You've heard your parents or teachers complain: "Why don't you act normal?" The huge question here is "What is Normal"? When talking about Air Pressure....we learned what high and low pressure is, besides that, what is normal air pressure? The weight of the atmosphere on the surface of a barometer exerts a pressure through the fluid inside forcing it to rise. The greater the weight (pressure), the higher the rise. The barometric pressure seldom goes above 31 inches or drops below 29 inches. Normal sea-level pressure is 29.92 inches. Air pressure is the force exerted on a surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to Earth. Atmospheric pressure is commonly measured with a barometer. Why do we care about knowing this?? Atmospheric pressure can tell us about weather. When a low-pressure system moves into an area, it usually leads to cloudiness, wind, and precipitation. High-pressure systems usually lead to fair, calm weather. If the barometer reads 30 inches and over time the average air pressure is 30 inches, if the barometer reads , 29 inches or 28 inches we know that there is change coming in the weather. Lower numbers mean low pressure is moving in and so do the storms. The lower the numbers, the stronger the storms. If the barometer numbers are higher, 31 inches, we know that high pressure is moving in and the weather will be nicer, dryer, hotter or colder. Like humans, we can be normal when we want to, but it's more fun to be "abnormal". In terms of atmospheric pressure, "abnormal" may mean a big storm or a nice sunny day. For humans, well....normal is what you make of it....
