There are TWO types of planets, I hope you have noticed this by now... Terrestrial planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are smaller planets, made of rock and metals. They are high density and have solid surfaces. They have few or no moons and they are crowded together, closest to the Sun. Jovian Planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have much larger mass and are made up of hydrogen, helium and hydrogen compounds. They are low density (they could float in a pool), no solid surface and much farther from the Sun. All the gas planets have rings and moons. There are other patterns in our Solar System. There are lots of rocky objects trapped in the Sun's gravitational pull and they have a pattern! Rocky Celestial Objects: Asteroids and Meteoroids Ice and Rock Celestial Objects: Comets As usual there are exceptions...there are always exceptions....to this pattern. Venus rotates backwards! (Clockwise) Uranus is on its side! Triton orbits backwards! Earth's Moon is big compared to the other "weird" looking moons the other planets have. (Maybe I'm a bit biased because it is "our" Moon?) We are surrounded by patterns on Earth and in Space. Does this mean anything? Is it significant? Should we study these patterns and maybe they lead to more answers about where we came from? Where we are going?

All planets have moons and it looks nothing to the size of the planet.

It is weird that some planets spin or orbit backwards.

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
