Summer is over already! How does time go so fast? Welcome to 6th grade Science where we look at, and contemplate phenomenon that happens all around us. In the last few weeks look at phenomenon that has happened around the world: Huge dust storms in Arizona...they call them "haboobs"! It looks like something from the "Mummy" movie! This is real phenomenon happening near our own towns. The Big Island of Hawaii has been growing every day this summer, and continues to grow! (We should keep an eye on this!) Did anyone see the Perseid Meteor shower last weekend? That was a very fun and awe-some experience! Wildfires from California, Oregon, Nevada and Washington could be seen from space. Pictures taken by the GOES-16 satellite. Rare pyrocumulus clouds were seen in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho and Utah this summer. These clouds only occur where fires are super hot. This summer, the pyrocumulus cloud was not "rare".
The planet we live on is alive and full of fascinating phenomenon and this year in 6th grade we are going to spend some quality time looking at and trying to understand some simple and maybe not so simple phenomenon. So get rested, put on your seat belts, we are going to take an unforgettable ride through fascinating science phenomenon!
