Many people believe that the temperature changes because the Earth is closer to the sun in summer and farther from the sun in winter. In fact, the Earth is farthest from the sun in July and is closest to the sun in January! During the summer, the sun's rays hit the Earth at a steep angle (Direct Light). The light does not spread out as much, thus increasing the amount of energy hitting any given spot. Also, the long daylight hours allow the Earth plenty of time to reach warm temperatures. When there are more hours of daylight the sun's rays come in to Earth at a steeper angle, cutting through fewer layers of atmosphere. Like a knife cuts a cake at a direct angle, the knife can cut through the layers easily and get directly through the cake. In the winter the sun’s rays come in at a shallow angle with more atmosphere to filter through. Instead of traveling directly through the atmosphere, the sunlight is coming in at lesser angle and must travel through the layers of atmosphere at a lesser angle. This causes more of the light to glance off the Earth, lightly touch it before the light rays are absorbed or reflected back into space. Both of these hits are indirect and don't cause as much pain. In the case of the Sun's indirect hit, we don't receive as much heat. The reasons for the seasons:
1. The tilt of the Earth on its axis. 2. The direct and indirect angles of sunlight coming from the sun onto our tilted earth.

Guys, whatever happened to the whole "not just commenting about the pictures" thing. Once again, I am trying not to do sound like a control freak over what everyone is commenting about, I just feel like Mrs.Taylor shouldn't ONLY be thanked for the "cute pics" but for the posts/perfect essays she gives us DAILY.
