Another fantastic Thanksgiving holiday is behind us. We were rudely awakened by our alarm clocks this morning telling us to GET UP! at the crack of dawn...ugh! It seems like all Monday's are the same, gross! I guess things could be worse....this morning scientists have proposed that Phobos, the moon orbiting Mars is showing signs of "stress" and may be showing the first signs of being sucked into Mar's tidal gravity. This is bad for Phobos, she may soon crash into Mars or be eaten away by the atmosphere surrounding Mars and end up a ring of dust and chunks of debris! These long grooves are signs that Phobos is falling apart! Orbiting a mere 3,700 miles above the surface of Mars, Phobos is closer to its planet than any other moon in the solar system. Mars' gravity is drawing in Phobos, the larger of its two moons, by about 6.6 feet (2 meters) every hundred years. Scientists expect the moon to be pulled apart in 30 to 50 million years. This could be worse than a Monday. More Breaking Science News on a Monday: Scientists have discovered a hungry black hole swallowing a star at the centre of a nearby galaxy. The supermassive black hole was found to have faint jets of material shooting out from it and helps to confirm scientists' theories about the nature of black holes. This is an artists idea of what it would look like close up to see a black hole eating a star. The discovery is the first time scientists have been able to see both a disk of material falling into a black hole, known as an accretion disk, and a jet in a system of this kind. Luckily for us the black hole is 300 million light years away from us and scientists were able to see this phenomenon using highly sensitive telescopes. I hope your Monday gets better and before we know it Friday will be here! Heads up, put a smile on your face and lets give this week the best we've got! Period 1 Science: Studying Gravity. We will be experimenting with gravity today doing some experiments to record how our bodies respond to gravity. Period 2 Science: Finishing our Clay Planet Lab Reports and starting a textbook reading on Gravity. Period 3 Science: We are still working on our Models of the Solar System. The goal today is to finish the model and get our Lab Report started and half-way completed. Social StudiesMr. Scheerer's class: We are reading about Alexander the Great. Student groups will be choosing vocabulary words to define using what they have learned from the text and their own knowledge of the word. Mrs. Taylor's class: We are finishing our Greece Geography Map and learning about some of the Climate and Geography of the area. That looks rather nice. I wonder if they have bad Monday's too?

The human genome, the genetic code in each human cell, contains 23 DNA molecules each containing from 500 thousand to 2.5 million nucleotide pairs. DNA molecules of this size are 1.7 to 8.5 cm long when uncoiled, or about 5 cm on average. There are about 37 trillion cells in the human body and if you’d uncoil all of the DNA encased in each cell and put them end to end, then these would sum to a total length of 2×1014 meters or enough for 17 Pluto roundtrips (1.2×1013 meters/Pluto roundtrip). Therefore there is enough dna in the average humans body to stretch from the sun to pluto and back 17 times

whos drake and ziyad im smart to this is who an asteroid is formedAsteroids are leftovers from the formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago. Early on, the birth of Jupiter prevented any planetary bodies from forming in the gap between Mars and Jupiter, causing the small objects that were there to collide with each other and fragment into the asteroids seen today.

Mrs. TaylorI love science! Everything about the world is interesting and never boring. I love to study plants, animals, insects, and people. My favorite subjects are my students who are the most unique organisms on the planet! Categories |
